Why is my fixed mother cat aggressive to her 6-month-old kitten?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

I have a female cat and her 6 month old male kitten. They used to be very close but the mom is now extremely aggressive toward the kitten. They are both fixed now, but it hasn't changed the aggression.

Cats are not naturally sociable and it is not uncommon for mothers to reject the kittens beyond puberty. It may ve worth considering segregation to different parts of the house or even rehoming one if very aggressive.. Pheromone products and calming diets or supplements can help in less severe cases
