My dog's hip hurts. How much is vet cost for surgery or reduction?

My dog needs to go to the vet for her hip. How much would it cost to be put back into place or, possibly, hip surgery along with pain meds?

Veterinary costs will vary by practice, location, and area of the country. To get an accurate quote, I would call local clinics to ask them for their price, but likely they will want to examine Murfy in order to get an accurate estimate. By examining her, they will know exactly what will be needed to treat her and can give you an estimate for the procedure so she can be treated.

It depends on what area you live in and what type of surgery you're talking about (there are a few different procedures that can be done for a dislocated hip), but in my area, normal cost for that type of surgery would be in the range of $1000 - 1500. I would recommend calling a few clinics in your area - most won't give exact numbers because there are a lot of variables involved, but they should be able to give you a general range.

No, this cannot be fixed at home, this requires a veterinarian immediately. Only a veterinary professional can fix this, and if you attempted to treat it yourself, you could do great harm and pain to Murfy. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends to afford the vet, and I can give you some resources that may help. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Poor Copper! I'm sorry to hear that he's having so much trouble with his hips - especially at such a relatively young age. Without being able to examine Cooper in person and review his x-rays, it's hard for me to say whether he would be a good candidate for surgery or not. But, I can tell you that hip replacement surgery in dogs is very commonly done for severe hip dysplasia and similar issues, and the results are usually excellent. Being a large, big-boned dog should not be a problem in terms of being able to have surgery done, in my experience - most dogs who get THRs (total hip replacements) are large breed dogs. If you're interested in finding out more about this option, including a professional opinion on whether Copper would be a good candidate for the surgery, I would recommend asking your vet for referral to an orhopedic surgeon. The surgeon should be happy to evaluate him and look at his x-rays, and can tell you for sure whether this would be an option for him or not.

It sounds like Delilah is in a lot of pain and unfortunately, this is likely something that needs to be addressed by the veterinarian. Keep her from further injuring herself by putting her in a crate or a bathroom with a baby gate. The more she walks around, the more she could injure it. She should only get out of this area to use the bathroom and she should be on a leash at all times. No walks, running, jumping, getting off/on furniture and keep stairs minimum. I recommend to discuss financing with family or friends. Delilah may need radiographs to know why she is suddenly in pain and then she may need treatment beyond that. You may also look into financing through Care Credit or Scratch Pay. You can find additional information on their websites. You may also go online and look for any low cost facilities, sometimes shelters will offer them but you will have to check. Best of luck.

Hello, sorry to hear about Shiro. He does indeed have hip dysplasia as is evident in his x-rays. This diseases does indeed require surgical correction, but only if Shiro seems to be in discomfort. Hip Dysplasia results in secondary osteoarthritis which in the long term can impact your pets ability to walk and overall comfort. There are two different procedures with regards to surgery, an FHNO were we remove the femoral head and neck or a total hip replacement were we replace the ball and joint with metal implants as they do in humans. Ultimately, the best contributor to decreasing osteoarthritis in dogs is by maintaining an overall low weight and lean body condition score. Obese pets with hip dysplasia tend to do worse. Now, with regards to surgery, it does not need to occur now, typically with either surgery, we want pets to be fully developed so that their bones are fully grown and they have developed all of the musculature. Hello, thank you using Boop by Petco. I am so sorry for your concerns about Madiidda. Her x-rays show very severe subluxation of the one hip, & a very shallow acetabulum of the other. This will never get better on its own, & as she ages, she will experience more & more pain possibly to the point where she may no longer be able to walk. A lot has to do with how you manage her growth, weight, exercise/conditioning, and use of joint supplements & pain medications. You may not be able to afford the surgery now, but perhaps in a couple of years, you might be able to. The important thing is to keep her a tad underweight, regular gentle exercise, & start her on a good glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate supplement. Omega fatty acids can be of some benefit in helping the inflammation in her hips. Work closely with your veterinarian about weight control, medications, & possibly even a veterinarian who practices some alternative modalities such as acupuncture & massage therapy. Here in the

First, I just want to applaud you for adopting this pet. You definitely need to be commended for trying to save a life. In terms of the cost of a pelvic surgery, it depends on many factors. Those factors would include what area or location of the country you live in, how bad and what bones are affected in the fracture, and are there any other diseases or conditions that need to be fixed in addition to the fracture. So an estimate is very difficult to get to you in a fairly accurate manner. but I can take a guess And give you an idea of what it would cost for a pelvic fracture only in a healthy dog in the Midwest. This surgery on a small dog could cost anywhere from $850-$3500 depending upon the veterinarian performing it. Sometimes that range depends on whether it is a general practitioner doing the surgery or a veterinary orthopedic specialist. It sounds like Maggie is painful in her hips, and she may have overdone it causing the pain. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!
