My dog ate moldy bread but isn't sick. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 11 lbs

I usually give my 11 pound Shih Tzu tiny little pieces of bread when he goes potty, I hadn't noticed but the bread had molded, I would say at best he has consumed maybe .25 of a slice of bread over the past several days, he isn't acting sick or throwing up, what should I do?

Dogs developed as scavengers so they can tolerate some food that we would consider rotten or moldy. He should be fine. If he was going to have a stomach upset it probably would have happened already, so no treatment is needed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Alfie.
