Why is my mouse making popping nose sounds but breathing normally?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 3 days old

I just heard this mouse making some 'popping' sounds with her nose. I took her out and held her and within a minute or so they stopped completely. I held her up to my ear and her breathing sounds absolutely normal, what was that? Would a mouse with a URI have normal breathing? Did she have something up her nose? Thanks. She's sleeping quietly now and has no other signs of illness.

She could have been nibbling on something or had something stuck. Usually with a URI you would notice change in her breathing. If She seems content I would monitor the situation and if her breathing or behaviour changes or she develops nasal discharge I would get her seen to.
