My 6-week-old puppy has no teeth. How can I help him with teething?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 month and 11 days old | 13 lbs

He still doesn't have any teeth and he's starting week 6. The vet didn't say much about it, but I'm concerned why it's taking him so long. I can see that they're there ready to come out. Can I give him anything to help him teeth faster? He has been biting my fingers and his toys, but no teeth coming out

There can be some variation in teeth eruption time. By 8 weeks I expect to see most teeth erupted. If by 10 weeks they are not there then a consultation with a veterinarian with dental radiographs or a referral to a veterinary dentist would be ideal. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

No, you are correct that this abnormal. Puppy teeth should start to come in around 3 weeks of age. It's hard to know how this will turn out since the puppy is young. He could still grow in the teeth or their could be a genetic abnormality that is causing the teeth not to erupt. I recommend to have this puppy examined by the veterinarian. This will be able to provide the new owners with a point of reference and you will need to discuss that there could be potential problems and complications. The new family will need to know about the abnormality so they can make an informed decision. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
