My dog has an ear mass. Should I wait 10 days or get it removed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 6 months old | 16 lbs

Hi , I asked earlier about a mass that suddenly appeared on my dog's ear. I went to the vet she did a fine needle aspirate where she used a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope. She couldnt determine if it is MCT or histiocytoma To be sure she said we need to remove it and send to biopsy But she also offered to wait 10 more days and see if it gets bigger or smaller.... My question is whether I should wait the 10 days or not ?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In my opinion Liko is a bit old to get a histiocytoma. They tend to occur in dogs 3 years or younger, maybe 5 years. To me it looks like a sebaceous adenoma, which are also benign. I think it is fine to wait another 10 days as long as it isn't growing at a super fast rate. I hope this helps and I wish you and Liko the best!
