How often do I give NexGard Spectra and does it cover tapeworms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 4 lbs

Can anyone please tell me about NexGard Spectra and what does it work against and how often do I give our little princess? Is it safe to give her tape worm pill but several weeks NexGard Spectra or should I just give her NexGard Spectra? Any advice and information would be really helpful.

NexGard Spectra is an oral chewable medication that is given monthly to protect your dog against fleas, ticks, heartworm, lungworm, hookworm, whipworm and roundworm. It does not treat tapeworm infection, but you can give the tapeworm medication concurrently if necessary. As long as Bella does not have fleas, she should be safe from tapeworm since fleas are how it is spread. You can read more here: http://www.nexgardspectra.com.au/faq
