Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Santa! Santa is really young and I worry about dehydration and low blood sugar in 5 week old puppies with diarrhea. I also worry about the crying and pain. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, constipation, viral (parvo and distemper are possible if not vaccinated) and bacterial infections, sudden diet change, ate something gross, ate something that is stuck, has an intussuscpetion, toxin ingestion. If Santa is not eating, is very lethargic, starts vomiting or continues to cry in pain he needs to be seen by a Vet. You can try a bland diet at home of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. He is too young for human medications. I hope this helps and I wish Santa the very best!
