Oh ouch! That looks like it is uncomfortable. This looks like it could be a skin infection, which could be bacterial or yeast, or a combination. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. In the meantime you may want to consider bathing him in a shampoo that contains chlorhexidine or salicylic acid. These can be found in the human shampoo aisle in the dandruff area. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Poor Ceaser! Rashes on the belly and along the genitals can be due to a number of reasons, including allergies to food or environment, yeast infections, fungal infections or bacterial infections. Fleas and ticks can also cause itching and irritation, thought it is usually not concentrated to just one area. Having your vet take a look is best, and your vet can provide treatment such as a daily allergy medication or other medications to resolve the issue. It is best to make sure Ceaser doesn't lick or chew at the area until you can get to the vet, which can make things worse by getting bacteria into and under the skin. An Elizabethan (cone) collar or old T-shirt can be used.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Hope this answer was helpful, but please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further. Please find the time to give us a feedback about the consultation as that will be used to improve our service.

Rashes due to allergies from food or the environment can cause redness and itching along the belly and near the genitals. Daily medications, diet changes and preventing Ajay from licking and chewing at the spot can all help. You may want to use an old T-shirt or Elizabethan (cone) collar to keep him from bothering the area to prevent bacteria from getting under the skin. If the area doesn't clear up, having your vet take a look is best, and they can provide you with an appropriate dosage of a daily allergy medication if needed.
