My dog is clacking teeth, pawing face, and tilting head. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shetland Sheepdog | Female

My shelty, when she's up and walking, keeps clacking her teeth like there's something in here mouth (when she usually clacks). She's also pawing at her face (as if she were itchy) much more often then usual. And often when she's clacking her teeth today she's tilting her head for some reason. I've never seen her act like this before. She seemed fine yesterday. Please help, I'm really worried she might be sick. She usually clacks her teeth when she gets fur, etc. in her mouth but not this often.

It sounds like she may have dental pain such as from an abscess or broken tooth. I strongly recommend a full dental and oral exam by your vet as soon as possible. Keep Bella fasting for 12hours before the appointment as sedation may be required if uncomfortable
