My dog has low blood counts, breathing issues, and swollen belly.

Hello, My pet has been having respiratory problem from the beginning of this month. We showed him to a local vet here and he gave him prednosolone injection for a few days but his respiratory problem was not improving. we did a blood test and the results showed HCT Low, HGB Low and PLT low. The doctor said to continue to give him syrup for thrombocytopenia & anemia but no result. next blood testhis HCT,HGB,WBC,GRANS,PLT were all low.did a transfusion , but no success. his stomach, lower abdmn sw

Hello. Anemia in a dog this young is usually due to parasites, but I cannot imagine that multiple stool checks were not done to rule this out. Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia is a strong possibility especially since your vet did treat with steroids. This can be a tricky disease so if your veterinarian is just not getting ahead of the problem you might want to ask for a referral to an internal medicine specialist. If you are within driving distance of your states veterinary college, this would be an excellent place to have Yoshiko evaluated.
