Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | 3 years and 8 months old | 78 lbs

Skin is very red, dry and scaly. Several vet visits checked for bacteria and other things. I have been looking into eczema and psoriasis. She is in so much pain she bit the vet so no more. What do you thing it could be?? It has cost so much money and now I am broke. She is normally a happy and playful dog. She is a bully new breed ( american pit and English bull dog. she does have sensitive skin. This started about 2 months ago. Her eyes are swollen, her legs are very swollen. No rolls ever.

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Unfortunately to give you more specific advices I would need to know exactly what has been done so far in terms of tests and what treatment was given and what were the results (even temporary results).
