Is it normal for my dog to be sick and hide after getting vaccines?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 4 months old | 14 lbs

Kai had a wellness exam followed by a few vaccines ( bordetella intranasal, pyrantel pamoate, DHPP and rabbies). For the past two hours his behavior isn’t like him. He’s under the bed and when he walks it’s very slow could all the vaccines be making him ill?

Hello, sorry to hear about Kai. Yes, similar to humans, pets may be a bit under the weather after being vaccinated. This is typically self limiting and they should be back to their normal selfs in the morning. More concerning signs for a vaccine reaction may include a swollen face, hives, vomiting and decreased appetite. If you note any of these then have him evaluated by his veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck
