Dog has swollen growth between toes. Can Epsom salt or witch hazel help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 13 years and 5 months old | 30 lbs

My dog has a large growth between toes. Almost look like another toe. Swollen and sore. She keeps licking it raw. I just started to soak her foot in Epson salt water. Does witch hazel help too?

This looks like a large abscess or a tumor. I am afraid neither epsom salt nor witch hazel is going to help here. You will need to take Bailey to your veterinarian who will examine her leg, and will take a small sample of tissue to determine whether this is an abscess or a tumor. The material harvested will also be useful in determining whether this is a benign or a alignant growth. An abscess will need to be evacuated and flushed. A tumor would likely need to be removed.
