My cat's eye looks irritated and hair is thinning. Can I use cream?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 11 months old | 9 lbs

My cat appears to have something over her eye. Hair has thinned a little and looks irritated. Can I use a cream? Otherwise shes in great health.

I am sorry to hear about Ernie. We do not normally recommend an over the counter cream on the skin that is around the eye, as it is very easy for the cream to get rubbed into the eye the way cats groom, and if the cream is not made for the eye it can be irritating and sometimes cause corneal ulceration. I would recommend bringing Ernie in for an exam to have the vet look at her. If a cream or ointment is needed, they can provide one that is safe to use around the eyes.
