My puppy has pimples on his head and eyes, scratching them open. What is it?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 19 days old | 20 lbs

My puppy is 14 weeks old. He is a blue pit. About a month and half ago he started getting like little pimples on his head. Now they are around his eye and he scratches them open?? I put coconut oil on his head. But he runs when I try now... What can it be?

Your puppy could be suffering from demodicosis (mite infection) or a fungal or bacterial skin infection. Please do not put cocout oil on the lesions, it will not work and possibly makes it worse. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam and proper treatment.

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Hazel is having skin issues. Puppies can get “puppy acne,” which can be similar to what you are describing. Alternatively, skin infections (bacterial), skin parasites, allergies or another underlying issue can cause similar signs. If they are itchy, spread, or start to pop, I would recommend having them evaluated by her regular veterinarian. Good luck!

What a cutie! I get nervous with young ones- I would recommend taking him I to see a veterinarian. They can diagnose what is going on and prescribe a treatment. My pit has bumps on his head and Below his ears and on his paws and sometimes they pop like a pimple what could that be
With his age I would be concerned about puppy pyoderma (bacterial skin infection common in young dogs) but a type of mange and secondary bacterial infection is also possible. If this is mange then his skin won't clear without treating both diseases. There is also a possibility of ringworm. Your veterinarian could do an exam and go over in detail the tests for those diseases and treatment options. Alternatively some try an OTC pet medicated shampoo but if the skin doesn't clear up then a visit to the veterinarian is needed.

My puppy has 2 spots on top of his head 1 is white and I is like a scab. What can I use to treat them and what are they?
He could have a bacterial infection, demodex (mite), or possibly ringworm. You could bathe him with a medicated puppy shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can do a skin scrape, culture, and cytology, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat.

What human items can I put on my dog to help the healing of these pimples? She keeps cutting open bumps and pimples all over her face at least once a day. Neosporin doesn't seem to be helping it. So I was wondering if there was anything else I can us
I hate to hear that! You can try applying just a dab of coconut oil and rubbing it in very well. In general, keeping her muzzle very clean and dry may help. If the lesions don't clear up significantly within a week or so, I recommend to have her seen by the veterinarian. Sometimes antibiotics and anti-inflammatories are needed. You can also ask about pet safe medicated wipes that may be useful if routinely used. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog has a lot of little bumps on his head and face some look like bites and he is losing so hair behind his ear
Poor guy. He may have a mite infection or even an allergic skin reaction. At either rate he will need to be seen your vet for a severe reaction like this. I would suggest bathing him in an oatmeal based puppy shampoo or Duoxo calming shampoo for now. But then he should get seen by your vet to determine if he needs antibiotics to clear any potential skin infection, which is very likely present.n

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Leo. Poor boy. It could be he has acne, but it could be as well he has a skin infection. Pugs are prone to skin infections due to the wrinkles on their face. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I would take him into a vet on Monday. The vet can diagnose what is causing his skin problems, and can treat him. Best of luck.

It will likely resolve itself over 10-14days, I would keep it bathed with saline or cooled boiled water to prevent any infection etc and recommend you see your vet for prescription ointment which is safe to use around the eye if does not improve.

It sounds as if your dog has a skin infection, most commonly caused by an allergy, a skin mite (Demodex) or fleas. The allergy could be a due to a protein in your dog’s food or an environmental allergy like to dust, pollens, grasses, etc. The allergy causes your dog to itch and chew at the skin which breaks down the skin barrier. This then leads to infection. Skin infections are typically characterized by large areas of hair loss, redness, crusting, flaking, and pustules. A thorough skin examination by your veterinarian should be able to determine the cause of the itch so it can be treated appropriately. Your dog will most likely need antibiotics to help clear up the infection and possibly an allergy/anti-itch medication like Apoquel, Atopica, or Cytopoint to give some relief while the infection clears up. A medicated shampoo may be beneficial as well. I would also recommend he be on a good flea control routinely too. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Best of
