How to deal with your puppy's adolescent testing and rebellion?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 6 months and 2 days old | 115 lbs

How do you deal with a puppy in their adolescent rebellion stage where everything you taught them is kinda being tried and they test your patience ? My puppy is 6 months old now and i can see small signs of him testing with pulling on the leash and jumping to get his way, not wanting to come when called. I know his energy has gone up ALOT but he’s getting fixed and professionally training soon. But i wanna handle this the right way

It's normal for puppies to become more independent and less focused on you as they reach adolescence. The best way to handle this is by simply "going back to basics" and reminding Bear of what you want him to do. Make sure to reward generously when he does what you ask. I agree that getting some hands-on help from a trainer would also be a good idea, so I would get started with this as soon as you can.
