If the has red crusty bumps he may have an allergy to the food or environment or a skin infection. If that is the case it is best to see a vet. You can try bathing the area with kitten shampoo, but be very careful not to get the shampoo near the eyes. This could be some staining of the fur which will eventually go away as the fur grows, and if it isn't bothering your kitten and the skin appears normal then I would not worry too much about the discoloration.

Hello. Most of these kitties have a viral infection of the eyes often complicated with a secondary bacterial component. Other than keeping the eyes clear by gently cleaning with warm water a few times a day, there is not much more you can do except having the kitten seen & treated by a veterinarian. A wide variety of disinfects will deactivate the common viruses repressible for upper respiratory illness in cats as will steam cleaning. Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. You need to clean it twice a day with antiseptic solution. 4% chlorhexidine would work best, you should be able to buy it at pharmacies or online. Also, make sure that that your Kettey is not scratching that area and that the other cats are not licking the wound. It should go away after a few days, but if not, she will need to be put on a course of antibiotics.

I would recommend soaking the area in a warm solution of kitten/puppy shampoo diluted 1:5 with water for 3-4 minutes and then gently towel drying to remove the crusts. Applying a small amount of zinc-free bepanthen diaper ointment can help if the underlying skin is become irritated but this can be very difficult to wash out of the coat later!

If he is completely recovered, you can use any shampoo labeled for use in cats and kittens. The local pet store should have several options. Keep him warm and dry him thoroughly after bathing. If he is not 100% healthy, a bath at this point may be stressful which could further impact his health and recovery.
