My dog has respiratory infection, heart disease, no appetite, not better?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | spayed | 14 years and 2 months old

Tot is being treated with Simplicef for a respiratory infection. She also has heart disease and takes vetmedin, enalapril, and Salix. She has no appetite (she acts like she wants to eat it, but just pushes it around and seems confused by it) and after 6 days, I don't see any change in the respiratory symptoms. She has had this before, and I don't remember it taking this long for her to get better. Is this abnormal? She has 6 more days on the simplicef.

This may be a combination of pulmonary edema caused by her heart condition and the respiratory infection. It is quite possible that the antibiotic worked, however she may need to be reassessed for her heart medication and/or the diuretic (Salix). I suggest you take Tater-Tot back to your vet for a recheck to make sure the respiratory infection has resolved and for a reassessment of her heart disease therapy.
