My unvaccinated puppy chewed a street ball. Could she get sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | 2 months and 17 days old | 15 lbs

My two month old Golden retriever, that hasn’t yet been given all of her vaccines, grabbed a ball that my cousin found on the street. By the time she bit the ball, I hadn’t washed it yet. Is my puppy likely to have been infected by something?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While in theory it is possible, it is not very likely. It all depends if a dog that had an infectious disease such as parvovirus had contact with that ball as well. Good luck and have a great day!
