Why is my dog not eating, vomiting, shivering, and has a chest lump?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 12 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs

My dog is refusing any type of food, drinking water and vomiting for sure at least once a day. He has the shakes sometimes too but nothing uncontrollable, like shivers. He does have a lump in his chest that is smooshy. He will sleep and drink water but not a lot of water. He is still going to the bathroom (no diarrhea) and is not secluding himself from us or other dogs.

Sweet Pea sounds very ill, and he needs to see a vet today. It's very serious that he is refusing to eat, vomiting at least once a day, and shivers (he may have a fever). This lump on his chest could be a lipoma, but it could be something more serious such as a malignant tumor. When a senior dog is vomiting and not drinking a lot of water, they can quickly get dehydrated. I would take him into a vet now to diagnose the cause of his symptoms so he can be treated. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
