My husky is coughing up blood, but the vet found nothing. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 53 lbs

My 3yo male husky had started coughing up spots of blood. His heartworm test and stool sample cleared him of any worms and larvae. The vet listened to his chest and didn't hear anything abnormal. He acted completely fine at the vet and as soon as we get back to the house, he's coughing.. No fever either. Doesn't appear to be anemic but had immune hemolytic anemia earlier this year. Haven't changed cleaning/house items and he hasn't gotten into anything (I'm a stay at home mom so I'm always home)

I recommend taking Zeus back to the veterinarian and have chest x-rays performed to rule out anything going with his lungs. If you feel it is more vomit then coughing then I would recommend treating for an GI ulcer. Zeus may need to go to a specialist if this doesn't resolve.
