We took my 4 month old puppy to his vet for rabies shot and he had an anaphylactic shock like 2 minutes after the shot was given to him. He couldn't stand nor walk and he defecated, peed and regurgitated. The vet gave him another shot took him to the back of the clinic. We had to wait for 15 minutes, after which he was back on his feet. We are overseas and have limited capabilities in terms if the language here. Should I still be worried? How long should I keep a close watch over him?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bo. How scary! I recommend monitoring him closely for 24 hours. Then I recommend asking the veterinarian for a letter stating that it is unsafe for him to receive the rabies vaccine in the future due to his severe reaction. He will likely react again with future immunizations. Good luck!

Romeo is absolutely adorable! Severe reactions to a vaccine will generally occur very quickly after the vaccine is given, but it can take up to 48 hours for other reactions to occur. I would watch him over the next day, but if it's been more than 24 hours since his vaccine and he's doing fine, he likely is ok and you won't see any reaction. I hope this helps!
