this has progressively gotten worse. they haven’t spread farther than they are now but new ones appear within the current space. they will eventually get dark purple (one by one) then explode with blood and puss. this has been going on for a month or two now. i wash her bedding constantly and haven’t introduced anything new into her diet. the EXPENSIVE medications the vet gave me are making any improvements

Hello, sorry to hear about Cleo. It looks like she may have lip dermatitis which could be causes by multiple variables. One possibility is that her lip and cheek skin is becoming irritated from your pup licking her lips too much (like humans may get), from allergies associated with the environment or food bowl and lastly, and autoimmune disease. Unfortunately, most of these diseases are often diagnosed with skin biopsies. In the interim, medications such as the ones your veterinarian may have prescribed for Cleo are used to diminish the severity of the clinical signs. However, medications alone do not always dix the issue. Most owners have to make some form of environmental change (new food bowls, lit the licking, etc) to fully control the disease. Speak with your veterinarian about the next steps for Cleo. Hope this helps and best of luck.
