Sounds like a good start! I would recommend brushing her teeth rather than giving dental treats if Luna wil tolerate it. Start slow and gradually acclimate her to a small cat toothbrush or finger brush with some enzymatic toothpaste. Dogs and cats that are flea allergic, meaning have a severe reaction to the saliva, will break out this bad from ONE flea bite. She should have a skin scrape done to rule out mites. There no good test for food allergies. It is best to do food trials. To save money and Vet visits for Luna I would bite the bullet and immediately go for a prescription hydrolzyed diet like Hill's z/d or Royal Canin HP. She may need steroids or antibiotics to get her comfortable during this outbreak. Cats can be maintained on off label use of antihistamines and apoquel. And some cats do well on atopica. Omega 3 fish oils never hurt either. It is hard for Vet who have never examined Luna's skin to give you an estimate over the phone. I am sorry to hear Charlotte has been uncomfortable! She is a very beautiful cat! I recommend having her screened for ear mites, ear infections and external parasites. Regardless of the underlying cause, medications may be indicated at this point. If they do not find an underlying cause on exam, I would also consider requesting a flea prevention, a prescription food trial and changing her food bowls to stainless steel and washing them daily as some cats can have sensitivities to parasites, food and plastic. Time and patience! Some cats don't like being groomed, or can become easily overstimulated from the tines of a brush. There are some self-grooming tools out there that may be less overstimulating and more interesting to Florence, such as arches with bristles on them the cat can rub against, or even plastic brushes that attached to wall corners to all your cat to rub up against it. A softer rubber brush such as a Kong brush, or even a grooming glove rather than a deshedding glove may also be gentle enough to avoid irritation while still getting mats out. If Florence is really nervous about the brushes, start slow. You can find a treat or snack she likes (such as a smelly piece of chicken or tuna) and then just brush her ONCE and give the treat. Once she is OK with that, you can move up to brushing a few spots in between treats, and then finally grooming mats or more problematic areas until she is more used to it. Oh no, I'm so sorry Luna is missing. Have you checked with local vet clinics? Let them know you are missing her, and they can keep an eye on her in case someone brings her in. You can also check any local animal shelter. Keep searching, and check very small places. It's amazing how cats can squeeze themselves into very tiny places. Also check up trees.
