Why is my spayed cat backing into corners? Could she be in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old

My cat Pooki was spayed yesterday and I brought her home today. She was acting fine for the first few hours but a few hours later when she would start walking she would stop and back up until she was backed into a corner. Why is she doing this? And could she be in pain?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pooki. Yes, she may be painful. Keep her quiet tonight if she is otherwise acting normal. Contact her veterinarian first thing tomorrow to discuss her pain control and what may need to be changed. Do not give her any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to cats. I hope this information helps.
