Ferret has candle wax on paws & burnt whiskers. Is a vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | spayed | 3 months and 15 days old | 1lb

I was going to clean my ferrets cage and I put her on the bed. When I was in the bathroom and she suddenly made her way to my desk where a candle was lit. She then proceeded to bite at the flame, burnt some whiskers and got candle wax on herself. I got most of it off her body but there is still some on her paws. I don't want to over bath her but she doesn't seem to be in pain, so I'm not sure a trip to the vet is necessary. What would you advise? - Keith

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bandit. I would bathe just the affected areas with Dawn dish soap. It is good at the stripping the fur and will hopefully strip any remaining wax off of him. You do not want him to ingest the wax. If he becomes lethargic or refuses to eat or drink, he will need to see his veterinarian. Good luck!
