My hamster has wounds and fur problems. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 5 days old | 0.04 lbs

My hamster has some kind of a wound or an infection and idk what to do. It's on both sides. He also has vet looking fur. I noticed it last night and only got a better look today. Is there anything I could do? My mom doesn't want to take him to the vet sience it's pretty excpensive. Is there any hope for him? If he really requires a vet I can try to pay for it myself. I'm conserned that he might have to be put down. :(

Ouch, poor Kola! He does need to see a vet, but the good news is that this may be able to treated and you don't need to put him home. Of course I can't say this for certain without seeing him in person, but infections can typically be treated successfully. I'd make an appointment for him with the vet to have this infection treated. I hope this helps!
