Red heeler's first heat: Is her vulva swelling and pink color normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | unspayed | | 40 lbs

I have a red heeler that came into heat for the first time she's a year old but something just don't seem right about it she's really really swollen in the back which I know is normal to swell but I don't know if she's been sleeping a lot and it looks not red red but a little red pink color I just want to make sure that is not too swollen or something isn't wrong

From the pictures you have provided of Georgia, her vulva does look normal for a dog in heat, but please keep in mind that because I can't see her in person, I cannot say this for certain. If you are concerned about her, take her into the vet for a check just to be safe. I hope this helps!
