My puppy is anxious, aggressive, and peeing indoors. What training?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 26 days old | 33 lbs

I think my puppy has confidence issues - he has had lots of other dog socialising from 3 months old possibly not much human socialising - I live in a very rural area - he has just started pooping and peeing indoors this last week and today when out walking a young child tried to pet him and he became quite anxious - hiding behind me but not aggressive although he has been aggressive towards other dogs whilst on his lead - am not sure what kind of training to do ? Thank you

It sounds like Gizmo could benefit from both some basic obedience classes, and talking with a trainer or animal behaviorist in person, especially if his behavior is worsening or not improving with home-training. This can help increase his social skills in a structured and supervised setting and may help with overall confidence, greeting people, leash walking, and manners. If he is also having accidents in the house suddenly, or has had a sudden change in behavior, ruling out any health issues is a good step as well to make sure there isn't an infection or other underlying problem that could be causing the changes.
