Why is my cat hacking, sneezing, and wheezing? Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

So my cat, Calypso, has been doing this hacking/sneezing for the past few days and it's starting to worry me. She doesn't sneeze anything up and she doesn't throw anything up... It won't let me add videos here but she sounds like she's retching and wheezing at the same time

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Calypso is sneezing, wheezing, and coughing, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian soon. It could be an upper respiratory infection caused by a virus or bacteria or could be evidence of feline asthma, a heart condition, or other lung, airway, or cardiovascular conditions. Your veterinarian may recommend x-rays to help evaluate the heart and lungs further and may recommend antibiotics or other medications as needed. I hope this helps and I hope you are able to take Calypso in to see her veterinarian soon!
