My bulldog's swollen paw popped. What came out and what now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

My bulldog got a swollen paw the other day and I didn’t see that anything bit him or poked him. I put peroxide and antibacterial ointment on it and wrapped it. It popped so I cleaned it and and continued to clean and wrap it over the past few days. Tonight when I was cleaning it something came out of the little hole where the skin popped. Do you know what it could be? I pulled slowly so I think I got it all. He’s had this issue with his paw before but nothing like this came out.

Hello, sorry to hear about Monster. That looks like fatty or necrotic tissue. It does not obviously look like anything foreign, but it may be necrotic tissue encapsulating a foreign object. Ideally, you should have monster seen by a veterinarian, because these type of draining tracts are commonly associated with some form of foreign object. Which if confirmed, would need to be removed to treat the infection. The peroxide and antibiotic ointment are likely treating the outside infection, but are not doing anything to treat whats within the pocket. Additionally, dogs will often require oral antibiotics to treat an infected draining tract. Hope this helps and best of luck.
