Should I separate my female dogs during heat or when one gives birth?

If i have two female dogs i should separate them when one of them is in heat or not? Because they could fight. And when one of them is having a litter and give birth i shkuld seperate them aslo right? Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 59 lbs

You don't necessarily have to separate them, I'd only do it if you see any signs of aggression between them. If one of them does give birth to a litter, then I would give that dog her own room and her own space, and keep them separated while the puppies are little. I hope this helps!
