How to prevent my indoor cat from being terrified when moving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 11 lbs

I’m going to be moving on Friday and Kovu is always terrified of any change. What is the best way to keep him from being terrified when we move? He’s afraid of anything new and I’ve heard that cats can run away if they are scared when you move. He’s an indoor cat.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I really like a product called Feliway which can help reduce stress in situations like this. You may use this product in the environment as a diffuser or you can use the spray in anything that has contact with him. This should help make this move less stressful. Good luck and have a good night!
