Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 months and 6 days old | 23 lbs
I have a question I was told by my sons doctor that it would be good for him to have a dog. So long story to short I did that. But now we are moving and my son's doctor does not want to give him a esa letter because he is being sued by a other patient. We love our Shawn so much and I refuse to lose him. What could be the next step to getting one if his doctor backed out?

You will need to find another doctor who would be willing to provide an ESA letter. A veterinarian does not have the ability to provide any kind of documentation for an ESA animal - I believe only a mental health professional can make the designation. Keep in mind that an ESA is not the same as a service animal and although there are provisions in the Fair Housing Act that cover ESAs you should make sure you know what is and isn’t legal when asking for provisions if you are renting a house or apartment.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can just establish care with a different physician who may be able to do this for you guys. You can call ahead of time and ask if this would be possible. Good luck and have a great day!
