My dog has bad anxiety and won't go out. Is cannabis safe for her?

Hi there. My dog has been having very bad anxiety lately. All day she hides under a table & she is terrified to leave the house to pee/poop. I don’t know why or what to do. Anti anxiety medication is something that will be an everyday thing so idk if i should do that. How about marijuana tablets to calm her down? Any suggestions

It is not legal to give marijuana to dogs except in states where recreational use is legal since no state recognizes medical marijuana for dogs. Cannabis oil might be what you’re referring to which has a very low level of THC. Cannabis oil is considered a supplement and even though it is legal for recreational use in many states it is still in a grey zone for dogs and has not been extensively researched. You might be better off starting with a veterinary supplement for anxiety that contains theanine or colostrum complex like Composure, Anxitane or Solliquin. Behavior modification will also be important if Bella is so anxious she doesn’t want to go outdoors - talk to your vet about referral to a behaviorist.
