Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 lbs
Hello, I think I would like to try adding proden plaque off powder to my cats food in addition to brushing their teeth for their oral care, I have given them the dental treat version but not the food powder yet. But I read a review on a product site which I do not know how true it is but soneone said they gave their cat plaque off powdee for a while and it caused their cat iodine levels to rise causing their cat to get hyperthyroid. Is that possible from a cat consuming plaque off daily?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. In medicine you learn never to say “impossible” or “never” but this is HIGHLY unlikely. Hyperthyroidism in cats is almost always related to a benign tumor of the thyroid gland which produces too much thyroid hormone. If your cat were already borderline, then sure, maybe excess iodine supplementation could provide the thyroid cells with plenty to work with and tip her over the edge into hyperthyroidism. But in a normal cat with no abnormal thyroid cells, excess iodine should not do anything at all. I like plaque off and have been using it for years with my clients and have not had anything like this happen. Overall, the benefits probably outweigh the risks. Hope this helps and best wishes to you and Sweetie.
