Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 lbs
Our 6 yr old Tea Cup Yorkie has had long fine silvery blond hair but over the last couple of weeks while our family was on vacation the top center hair of her back turned black, short corse hair like she’s turning into a dachshund. What’s wrong with her? is this normal? We did notice a couple of months ago she had some kind of insect bite there but we treated it with neosporin and it seemed to go away.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your question. As long as the skin beneath is healthy looking, this is not going to cause harm to Cookie. Hair coat color change can be due to numerous factors including (but not limited to) genetics, environmental temperature, previous trauma to hair follicles, systemic hormonal disease, etc. If this was sudden that the hair coat changed color, I would recommend having Cookie examined by a veterinarian and have her blood tested just to be on the safe side so that any recommendations for additional diagnostics and treatments can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
