My cat's ear is drooping and she's shaking her head. Vet visit needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years and 5 months old

Hello! My cat has come in today and I have just noticed that her left ear is dropping slightly down instead of being pointy. She keeps shaking her head (which she never does) and when I feel her left ear, she keeps trying to move away from me (compared to when I touch her right air and she lets me). Nothing looks swollen and there is no cuts or scratches that I can see... do you know whether she has somehow damaged her ear, and if so, does she need to visit a vet in person? Thank you!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tessy. If her symptoms persist, then she will need to see her veterinarian. She could have a developed on a wound on ear or an infection. The cat's ear canal is quite long and needs a special instrument to be visualized. An infection or foreign object could be lodged deep inside. I hope this information helps!
