My bird died suddenly after boarding. Was it Newcastle disease?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 24 years and 7 months old

my 24 year old African grey died suddenly last week. We had boarded her at a large bird farm for a week while we were on vacation at he end of May.I noticed online on their website that they were no longer accepting chickens and roosters due to an outbreak of Newcastle disease. What is the incubation period for that virus in a bird and could that be what my bird had even though it is now the end of August?

Here is information on Newcastle disease. Incubation is up to 25 days in exceptional cases. It is a pity you did not send your bird to pathology, as this would be the only way to prove that she died from a Newcastle disease infection. There are chronic cases. http://www.cfsph.iastate.edu/Factsheets/pdfs/newcastle_disease.pdf https://www.petcoach.co/article/newcastle-disease-in-birds-causes-signs-treatment-and-preve/
