Why is my dog's penis oozing yellow discharge and he's vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 155 lbs

Hello, thanks in advance for your time. My 1.5year old mixed breed dog is having excessive spotting from his penis. I began to notice it on our white comforters on our bed, so much so that it is covered in small yelowish spots. More than normal. I've looked at his penis and can see that it is oozing. Most recently he spend 10 nights boarded while we were away on vacation, not the norm for him. He had also been vomiting bile the last few mornings. His appetite is normal, he is dryinking water.

Unfortunately smegma is a normal thing for male dogs. Some times there can be an infection or a foreign body in the prepuce (the space between the skin and the penis) that will cause an increase in the discharge. I would recommend that Rudy get checked out by a vet to see if this may be the cause. The vet can also discuss the morning vomiting. Some dogs have bilious vomiting syndrome. There is no specific treatment for this, but some people find that a small meal in the late evening or middle of the night, feeding a meal first thing upon waking in the morning, or antacids will help prevent the vomiting.
