Why is my unneutered dog marking and peeing inside the house?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 23 days old | 15.87 lbs

My dog has recently started marking and lifting his leg up while peeing on walls, cars etc. He has also started gaining the habit of peeing and pooping on our couch and today itself he peed on my sister's bed. How do i prevent him from peeing on these things? Are there sprays which I can use to stop this habit?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cashew. I recommend having him neutered. He is coming into puberty which is why he had started the urine marking behavior. Neutering him will help to resolve this behavior. It will take about 30 days after the surgery for the testosterone to leave his system. It may not resolve the problem entirely as it can become a learned behavior, but it should decrease it significantly. I hope this information helps!
