My outdoor cat's back wound has pus and blood. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

We found a wound on my outdoor cat’s back, which we’ve been cleaning twice a day with warm water. It produced pus and some blood this morning. I’ve ordered some veterycin, but should I take him to the vet? He eats, drinks, and eliminates normally.

Ideally, Horus should be examined by your veterinarian. Vetericyn, while a good product for minor wounds, may not be enough for a serious injury. He may need systemic antibiotics which your vet can administer or dispense after an exam. Pain management should also be discussed.
