Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dalmatian | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 18 days old | 20 lbs

It's been 4 days that my dog has been suffering from parvo. He's been getting treatment from 2nd day and gets 400ml of RL solution twice a day. At times he seeks water to drink desperately. What should I do should I give him some to drink or should I restrict him? If I am to give him water how much should I give him and what way should I give it to him ? And about his poop it doesn't have blood in it can u let me know is it good or bad for parvo(plz look at the picture and it smells really bad)

The poops look good for a dog with parvo. They should continue to get more solid as Oreo continues to recover. If he wants water, you can give him a bowl of water. I would only offer a few ounces at a time to avoid causing nausea. You can offer a few ounces of water or pedialyte every 2 hours. You can also start to offer moist food in small "meatball" sizes every 2 hours.

Not all dogs with parvo will have blood in their stools, so it can't be used to tell the prognosis. You may need to try the fluids more frequently and in small amounts. Try 1 ounce (30mL) every hour or two. The smaller volumes are less likely to upset the stomach. Some dogs don't like the flavor of pedialyte, so you may want to use just water or diluted chicken broth.
