My dog chewed her tail. What could be causing this and what should I do?

I saw this on my dogs tail today while bathing her, can you tell me what it is?

Your dog may have chewed her own tail due to either itchiness or pain. this typically happens due to flea bites or arthritis or even nervousness. You should monitor the wound, keep Raven from licking or chewing it. If it expands, starts to ooze or does not want to scab over and heal, it needs to be examined by your veterinarian, as it may be a type of tumor.
