My dog is throwing up and lethargic. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | 6 months and 21 days old | 13 lbs

I’m not sure if my other questions are linked to this 1 but if she’s just sick at her stomach from pork chop & I forgot to mention she ate a lot of grass & mud yesterday as well. She started throwing up this morning, hasn’t touched food or water. Happening every 3-4 hrs, she’ll vomit a small amount of white, yellow or greenish foamy liquid (the greenish just started) about 3 times. No diarrhea. She is getting somewhat lathargic now. About how long does an upset tummy take to subside?

No, the questions aren’t linked. I will usually be okay with an upset tummy for 24 hours, so if it’s been longer than that, Quintana should probably see the vet. The green means that her stomach is empty and she is starting to pull fluid from the upper small intestine (where bile enters). The vet may recommend a Parvo test, bloodwork, or x-rays to see what is causing her sickness, and can make an appropriate treatment plan when they have a better idea of the cause of her vomiting.
