Can guinea pig pellets spoil if left in a hot car for long hours?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 5 days old

I've been working today since 7am and I get done at midnight, (I work for Disney) and I need pellets for my guinea pigs. I was wondering if I bought the pellets on break and brought them home when I'm scheduled to leave for the day if they would go bad or spoil due to being left in my car? I work in the park so there's no where for me to leave them while I work. I work the same hours tomorrow, 7am-midnight. All the stores open at 9am and close at 9pm. Thank you for your help.

Hello. Because we want the Vitamin C to remain fresh in the food, I would not leave the bag in a parked care for hours at a time during the summer. What you can do is buy a very inexpensive styrofoam cooler, a cheap little Igloo cooler or even a $3.00 freezer bag from WalMart & put a couple of freezer packs inside. Then the pellets will stay relatively cool for the entire day. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
