Is rosemary extract in packaged ground turkey safe for my dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 12 years and 5 months old | 25 lbs

Any time my dog has diarrhea, I have to give him turkey and potato instead of the traditional chicken and rice or burger and rice due to digestive and allergy issues. He has also had issues with prescription foods. I noticed that packaged, ground turkey, even the organic has rosemary extract added. Is this dangerous to dogs?

Rosemary should not be harmful to your dog. However, pre-seasoned and pre-packaged meat like this tends to have a high sodium content that can be detrimental. So I would recommend buying plain ground turkey and cooking it yourself, without adding any salt or spices. This is safer and healthier for Cooper in the long run.
