My dog's belly button is purple and bruised. Is it a vet emergency?

Hello! My dogs belly button has suddenly turned deep reddish/purple, almost like a bruise. It also seems to have a ring around it that is more pale than his normal skin color. His belly button is normally the same color as the rest of his skin (very light pink). I’m wondering if this is any cause for concern?

It appears packer is having some bruising of his umbilical area. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for a good physical exam. Some dogs have small umbilical hernias that occur at birth. Fat or even intestines can get stuck in the hernia and cause problems. Also he could be having a local skin reaction but it is really hard to tell by a picture. Hope that helps and he feels better soon.
