My cat has a lump after a catfight. Is it safe to drain at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | RagaMuffin | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 9 lbs

My cat got into a catfight and several of the bites abscessed. They healed after several weeks but now there what seems to be a mass growing under the healed wounds. It feels like it might be more fluid. Can I open it up to try and drain it again?

No, please do not do this. That would be very painful for Rosie, and there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Many human ones are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. In addition, doing this will introduce infection into the area. She will need to see a vet for this. Give her vet a call in the morning to make her an appointment. Best of luck.
